TEDxCharlottesville will be hosting the Live Stream of the international TED Conference on March 17, 2015. This event, just like last year, will start late morning and go until about 9:30pmET that night.

You are invited to drop in, stay all day, come and go and enjoy the TED speakers that  will probably be featured at some point on the TED website, TEDTalk app and/or via TED Radio Hour on NPR. You get to see it when it happens.

TEDxCharlottesville is partnering with Open Grounds at the University of Virginia literally on The Corner. Open Grounds will serve as our venue for the live stream.  We hope you will join us. There is no cost for you to attend. Just show up and we take care of the rest.

Stay tuned here for more TED Live details.

The TEDxCharlottesville Steering Committee has received overwhelmingly positive feedback about our 2014 Reflexions event. We were happy to have a sold out event but more importantly, we were happy to offer a lineup of compelling, inspiring and thought provoking speakers. With that in mind, we have released the entire line-up of speaker videos on the TEDxCharlottesville website. On this blog, we will highlight session by session the videos. If you can’t wait that long – and we don’t blame you – just simply go to the TEDxCville website and binge watch.

This post features the TEDxCville Reflexions Session I speakers, Thomas Woltz, Ghislaine Maxwell, Aaron Fein, Donald Davis and the Daniel Heifitz. We know you will enjoy revisiting their talks if you already experienced them or enjoy experiencing them for the very first time. Welcome (again) to TEDxCharlottesville!

Thomas Woltz: Celebrated Landscape Architect and author, named “Design Innovator of the Year” by The Wall Street Journal. Click here to watch his talk.

Ghislaine Maxwell: President and Founder of the TerraMar Project, a non-profit organization that protects the ocean commons. Click here to watch her talk.

Aaron Fein: Digital Embroidery Artist, Architect. Click here to watch his interview.

Donald Davis: American storyteller, author and minister. Click here to watch his talk.

Daniel Heifitz: President and founder of the Heifitz International Music Institute. Click here to watch and listen…

Well…. that was amazing!

We didn’t think we could top 2013 The Difference That Makes a Difference but it looks like we did. It could NOT have been done without YOU. The TEDxCharlottesville Steering Committee really appreciates Charlottesville’s enthusiasm, support and engagement in this wonderful experiment. Simply put, you are AWESOME.

The videos from each session are going up and they can be accessed directly from the TEDxCharlottesville.com. If you were there, then perhaps you want to revisit some of the speakers and get re-inspired. If you weren’t there, then you definitely want to watch! The videos as organized by session.

For those who are on our mailing list, keep an eye out for those surveys. We really value your feedback. If by chance you aren’t on our mailing list and want to provide feedback, you can provide comments right here on the blog and they will be shared with the Steering Committee.

Again, thanks Charlottesville for being such a fantastic community!!

Volunteers – How It Happens

If you attended last year, you know…TEDx is magic. In our community, from our community, for our community. Ideas. Encouragement. Hope. Entertainment. And sometimes a needed kick in the seat. A day long shelter from the storm of the day-to-day existence of life.

But how does that magic really happen?

Volunteers, volunteers, volunteers. From the steering committee with the vision and tenacity to make it happen, to the speakers who have the courage to get up on stage and share with you. TEDxCharlottesville is a volunteer event. The real secret sauce that makes this special? The 60+ members of our community who take time off of their jobs to provide expertise in everything from program management to social media to events planning and catering. We have a cadre of brilliant, talented, energetic volunteers who are determined to make attending TEDxCharlottesville one beautiful seamless exciting event. They have carted bottles of water and tea, they have stuffed bags, assembled water bottles and badges, and asked many many questions to make sure they get it right. As we speak, our amazing volunteers are memorizing floor plans and speaker schedules. They are coming together over pizza to share their excitement and camaraderie and finalize tiny details. So, if you are lucky enough to have a ticket Friday, and you walk by one of the now invisible people wearing huge smiles and black tshirts, remember that they are here for you. It is their privilege to be your TEDxCharlottesville volunteers.

Guest Blog Entry: Kim Fitzhugh, TEDxCville Steering Committee and Volunteer Coordinator.
